BikeBridge is very much about encouraging the use bicycles as transportation. A big part of that is helping make it a little easier to choose a bike. By providing a Bicycle Valet Service for select major Lethbridge events and festivals, BikeBridge can provide the cyclist with a secure (and dry) place to leave their bike while they participate in an event or enjoy the festival. It is also a clear signal that using a bike as a means to get there, is not only acceptable, it adds to the fun, it’s a good idea.
BikeBridge hopes to make the Bicycle Valet Parking Service an ongoing part of our association, learning and improving the service with each event and festival we attend. For 2011, BikeBridge will be providing the Valet service for the two events noted above, with hopes and plans to expand that for 2012. (Event and Festival suggestions welcomed).
A Bicycle Valet Service allows anyone to ride their bicycle to attend an event or festival with the assurance that their bike will be safe and secure whether they area a participate or spectator.
The service works like a “coat check”, with cyclists leaving their bike in a secure area (with volunteers in attendance at all times) in exchange for an identifying ticket.
The BikeBridge Board believes that providing Bike Parking services at major Lethbridge events will become a BikeBridge staple. It is a service that not only provides exposure for BikeBridge but may well encourage more Lethbridge citizens to choose their bike as a means to attend events and festivals. It might even encourage some to attend an event they might otherwise not.
